Pro-Democracy National Alliance Condemns Heinous Farafra Massacre

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance mourns the martyrs of Egypt's armed forces who died Saturday near the Farafra Oasis (100km southwest of Cairo), and holds the leaders of the military coup fully responsible for this massacre, which reminds us of a similarly horrid crime in 2012, when the same coup leaders were also in high positions of responsibility.
The National Alliance renews its pledge to the Egyptian people to persist in the peaceful revolutionary movement until we achieve a well-deserved triumph for the Revolution and exact fair retribution for the martyrs of the whole nation.
We call on all revolutionary men and women of Egypt – in all their defiance activity during this week – to raise slogans denouncing the massacre, calling on the army to return to its barracks, condemning the new coup-regime failure, and offering condolences for the families of the dead soldiers.
This horrid massacre came as a new setback for Egypt, for which we grieve, and so do all people of conscience, who care for this subjugated nation. Those who failed to protect their own border forces cannot protect the state or the people. These tragic incidents reveal the great weakness that has afflicted Egypt's military because of their involvement in politics, their preoccupation with trade and business, their assisting in and tightening of the illegitimate siege on Gaza, and their abandoning of their primary role of protecting the homelands' borders.
The National Alliance demands a neutral, independent inquiry into this latest massacre, to apprehend the perpetrators, and announce findings to the people. Then, the culprits must be brought to a prompt and fair trial.
The ever-hesitant military statements, the rushed and erroneous judgments, and the baseless accusations are all nervous coup reactions that highlight the risks threatening Egypt and its institutions under military rule.
