The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Supreme Committee met on Saturday to discuss the priorities of current political situation in Egypt, reiterating its call for the ruling SCAF to set a specific timeline for the transition of power and holding parliamentary and presidential elections in timely fashion.
The committee also indicated that restoring security on the streets across the country is the ultimate responsibility of SCAF, which is essential to guarantee the integrity of any upcoming elections and for the return of normalcy to the life of ordinary citizens.
Furthermore, the committee expressed its full support for democracy and freedoms in Egypt, and encouraged the formation of alliances among political parties in order to formulate a true representative majority of the Egyptian people and achieve stability and development for the country. In that respect, the FJP renews its commitment to strengthen the Democratic Alliance for Egypt, which includes 34 parties, as one of the main platforms to reach national consensus.
The committee reviewed party’s preparations and its strategies for the upcoming elections, and emphasized the importance of publicizing the party’s vision and agenda through its grassroots across the country.
At the end of the meeting, the committee members nominated Dr. Ahmed Suleiman as the committee's Secretary General for cultural affairs and arts, and Dr. Osama Yasin, Assistant Secretary for administrative affairs. Six other members were voted in through a secret ballot include Hussein Ibrahim, Mohamed Beltagy, Farid Ismail, Saad Husseiny, Kamelia Helmy (female) and Ahmed Diab.
