DAMASCUS, -- Ezzat Al-Resheq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, strongly denounced the arson attack on a mosque in Luban Al-Sharqiya village, south of Nablus, on Tuesday which was carried out by Israeli settlers, saying this crime dealt a blow to the Arab follow-up committee who approved the resumption of indirect talks with Israel.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Resheq described the attack as “fascist and terrorist”, and said it brought to mind the spate of terrorist attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinian citizens and the Islamic holy sites.
He affirmed that the settlers’ terrorism is sponsored by the Israeli decision makers, especially since there are more than half a million armed settlers in the West Bank backed by the Israeli occupation forces that provide them with protection and help them in their attacks on the Palestinians.
For his part, Hamas spokesman Hammad Al-Ruqub described the latest Israeli attacks on mosques and Islamic holy sites as a systematic war.
Ruqub added in a statement on Wednesday that destroying a mosque in Rafah area and burning another one down in Nablus reflect the size of Israel’s hatred for Islam and Muslims.
He pointed out that Israel is also persistent in keeping a hold on the Ibrahimi mosque in Al-Khalil, fighting Muslim preachers and scholars and attempting to Judaize the Aqsa Mosque.
The spokesman appealed to the Arab and Muslim nations to move fast to deal with the real dangers threatening the Islamic holy sites in Palestine and not to be satisfied with condemnation statements.
The Palestinian people’s party, for its part, stated that the settlers’ assaults became more organized and brutal, asserting that the Palestinians and the whole region will not get security and peace as long as there is one Israeli settler in the 1967 occupied lands.
The party called on the Palestinian people and the residential gatherings adjacent to the segregation wall and settlements to work immediately on forming grassroots committees to defend and guard the lands, the residents and the property and deal with any settlers’ attack.
It also demanded the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah to draw lessons from the repeated attacks on mosques and the Palestinian people and refuse to get engaged in any negotiations with Israel before it puts an end to its settlement activities and curb its settlers.
