Mayor of occupied Jerusalem Uri Lupolianski announced that he would push forward a plan for building 10,000 new settlement units in various districts of occupied eastern Jerusalem in order to bring more Jews to live in the city.

In the same context, Israeli construction and settlement minister Ze"ev Boim announced Tuesday in an interview with the Hebrew radio the Israeli government would invite bids for the building of 360 new settlement units on the Mount Abu Ghuneim (Har Homa) settlement adjacent to the Aqsa Mosque in addition to other 750 units in Israeli Pisgat Ze"ev settlement, north of occupied Jerusalem.

Boim justified the plan saying there are no restrictions on the construction in the territory of the Jerusalem municipality, pointing out that the instructions issued by Israeli premier Ehud Olmert concerning the request for his permission before announcing the building of settlements are not related to Jerusalem but the West Bank only.
