GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, the Hamas prominent political leader, has received a barrage of condolence calls on the death of his son Hussam, 22, in the IOF bloody incursion on Tuesday including a phone call from PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas reached Zahhar over the phone late Wednesday night to extend his condolences over the death of Hussam while confronting the IOF aggression east of Gaza in the first such official contact between the two parties since the Gaza takeover by Hamas.

Fawzi Barhoum the Hamas spokesman, told PIC correspondent that the Palestinian chief sent a delegation headed by Kamal Al-Sharafi to offer condolences to Zahhar before his telephone contact.

Barhoum appreciated Abbas"s initiative, stressing that Palestinian blood should be an opportunity to unite ranks in face of Zionist aggression.

He called for exploiting all efforts to strengthen the Palestinian political institution in a bid to end the internal crisis and unite all efforts to "defend our people and to confront all challenges and to preserve our rights and constants".

Well informed sources told PIC that the Abbas-Zahhar telephone conversation went on for 20 minutes, and added that a number of Fatah prominent figures in the West Bank also phoned Zahhar for the same purpose.
