More than 200 professors in Egypt launched a campaign for gathering signatures inside universities to reject referring civilians to a military tribunal, an activity with which the March 9th Movement started its fourth annual conference held on Friday in Cairo University .

The participants in the conference issued a statement in which they condemned transferring civilians to military tribunals, specially fellow university professors, and that they condemned this trend of transferring a number of university professors from Cairo, Monofiya and Al-Azhar to these military tribunals on politically motivated charges; they confirmed that transferring university professors to the military justice is a proof on the thought intimidation policy adopted by the security services, and that they will oblige most youth to keep away from the public action, the spread of the extremist ideas among others and defaming the image of Egypt all over the world .

Dr. Mohammed Noor Farahat, a professor at the Faculty of Law Zagazig University, pointed out that the more security harassments increase, the more academic and administrative corruption increases and widens in Egypt, adding that these security harassments included also delegations and researches . The conference discussed also selling Alexandria University; Dr. Hala Kamal, a professor at the Faculty of Arts, warned that universities will turn into only training "centers", in the future.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Abu Al-Ghar, a professor at Al-Qasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine and coordinator of March 9th Movement for the Independence of Universities, said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that a number of University chairmen like Helwan University and Ain Shams University exercise terrorism against professors to prevent them from joining the movement, in addition to others mocking at the most important targets of the movement, the independence of universities.

Abu Al-Ghar added that there are many university professors who are, instead of doing their natural role in the university, thrown behind bars and the only charge is opposing the current regime.
