Within its continuous arrest campaigns targeting the Muslim Brotherhood, the State Security forces detained four of the Muslim Brotherhood today. This security escalation comes in wake of an impressive showing of the Brotherhood and its parliamentary bloc concerning some critical political and social issues such as the crises of bird flu and the doomy ferry.

The new detainees are from Giza governorate: Ahmed Tawfiq Ahmed, a labor, Ead Muhammad Kasem, Gabber Fadel Abu Taleb, an employee at el-Waqf Ministry, and Muhammad Adel, a pharmacologist. These latest arrests raise the toll of detained Brotherhood’s activists to 26 within five days, including Dr. Rashad El-Byoumy, a member of the group’s Supreme Council.

"These detentions are a part of a campaign that aims to curb demands of political reform in Egypt and to retrace the situation to its previous state ahead of the relative political stir that toke place in Egypt during the last year," the Brotherhood’s deputy leader Mohamed Habib told Reuters in his comments on recent crackdowns
