Egypt’s NCHR Calls for Independent Electoral Commission

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) held a workshop called “’Development of Vote Process in Arab States” to discuss elections in Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, and Palestine.

During his address, the council’s Secretary General Mr. Kamal Abu El-Maged called for setting up an independent commission to monitor elections to guarantee its neutrality and prevent interference by executive power. He pointed out that voting process requires certain mechanisms that secure freedom of expression and transparency. He stressed on the necessity to provid voters with the sense of security inside polling stations.

It is worth mentioning that Egyptian parliamentary polls was marred with fraud and violence that left 14 dead and scores of people injured
