Hamdan: Hamas and Al Qaeda Are Incompatible

The representative of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Lebanon, Mr. Osama Hamdan in a statement to Ikhwanweb reaffirmed that Hamas’s vision of resistance is completely different than what Al Qaeda believes in and promotes “Hamas has its own and clear vision in resisting the Zionist occupation using strategies that can better serve the interests of the Palestinian people”. Hamdan also added, “Unlike Al Qaeda, our weapons are only directed towards the occupation”

Hamadan reiterated Hamas’s stance of rejecting the referendum proposed by Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, which calls for the recognition of Israel and the acceptance of the Arab peace initiatives as a platform for the peace talks with Israel “Our decision in Palestine is clear; we reject the referendum because its unacceptable to put Palestinian cause up for a vote”. Hamdan sees the referendum a service to the Israel Occupation Forces more than a benefit to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause in general.

Al-Jazeera satellite channel on Friday broadcast a video tape by deputy leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri focusing on political developments in the Palestinian territories, Sudan and Egypt. The al-Qaeda deputy leader criticized a proposed national referendum in the Palestinian territories on establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel and giving recognition to the Jewish state.
