Abul Fotouh: We Admire The American People

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Dr. Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh, member of the MB executive Bureau, said the Bush administration is a stumbling block in the road of reform in Egypt. However, Abul Fotouh sees that the US administration and the American people are two worlds apart “ The US has a great history of spreading freedoms and protecting rights, but the policies adopted by the Bush Administration – led by the Neocons- spark killings and violence”, he said, citing Bush’s recent statements in which he admitted the presence of secret CIA prisons where torture is said to be  systematically exercised on victims to obtain information and confessions.

On the Muslim Brotherhood’s vision toward inheritance of power in Egypt, Abul Fotouh said that the group does not reject anyone assuming power but through fair and free elections . . . criticizing article 76 of the constitution which contains crippling conditions and specifications applying only to the ruling elite.

Abul Fotouh made these remarks in response to a statement by President Bush to Wall Street Journal in which Bush lamented that the 18 month political openness in Egypt has gone down the drain due to President Mubarak’s policies, citing the detention of opposition figure Ayman Nour, who spends a five year sentence on charges of endorsing fake powers of attorney to some of his party members.

Like other neoconservatives Frank Gaffney Jr. and Elliott Abrams, Kristol worked for hawkish Democratic Sen. Henry “Scoop” Jackson. But by 1976, he became a Republican. he served as chief of staff to Education Secretary William Bennett during the Reagan administration and chief of staff to former Vice President Dan Quayle during the George H. Kristol continuously called for Saddam Hussein’s ouster since the 1991 Gulf War. With the like-minded Lawrence Kaplan, Kristol co-wrote “The War Over Iraq: Saddam’s Tyranny and America’s Mission.” He is on the board of advisers of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, established as a counterterrorist think tank after 9/11.
