ECRF: 112 Extrajudicial Killings by Egypt’s Security Forces During First Half of 2018
Tuesday, July 17,2018 19:28

The Egyptian Coordination for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF) issued a report recording cases of extrajudicial killings in the first half of 2018 which amounted to 112 cases.

According to the ECRF report, killing by direct assassination accounts for the highest rate of extrajudicial killings, where 22 Egyptians were assassinated by the Egyptian security forces, followed by medical negligence inside prisons and detention centers which is responsible for 21 cases of extrajudicial killings.

In addition, 4 more Egyptians were killed as a result of torture in Egyptian detention facilities, and nine Egyptians were executed by court orders.

The report also cites 5 cases of Egyptians killed abroad, details of which remain unclear.

Meanwhile, nearly 49 soldiers from army and police forces were also killed.

In its report, the "Coordination Committee" recommends stopping all cases of extrajudicial killings and enforcing the Constitution and the law, stressing the need for fair trials.

It also called for an end to the policy of forcible disappearances and its associated systematic torture that amounts to murder.

In addition to the activation of laws and constitutional tenets taht protect citizens' dignity and provide them with  a decent life.

The "Coordination Committee" concluded its report by demanding that human rights and judicial institutions, in turn, scrutinize prisons and assure the provision of care and psychological and physical safety to political prisoners and all prisoners in general.
