Egypt: MB Detainee In Solitary Confinement, No Family Visits

In continuation of its flagrant violation of human rights and inhuman treatment of political prisoners  in Egypt, the Al Marg Prison authorities deprived the family of an MB detainee, by name of Maher el Tarky, of seeing their breadwinner who is, along with other political prisoners, placed in solitary confinement for a long time without any of them seeing light; some of them haven’t seen light for about 15 years.

Tarky’s lawyer late last week submitted a complaint to the attorney general accusing the state security authorities , along with the  Director of Marg Prison, of torturing the detainee and placing him in solitary confinement as well as denying him his fortnight visit.

The report decried these inhuman acts, saying that the detainee is in a critical health condition which could be deadly if measures are not taken to save his life. Al Tarky has been in detention for about one and a half months while he was  attending a rally at the electoral center of MB Member of Parliament Magdy Ashour in a Cairo constituency,  for support of the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance.

Then the authorities released him but he was redetained and one and a half months has passed without the authorities leveling any charges against or releasing him.

In a serious precedence, the Prosecution refused to look into the complaint submitted by the lawyer accusing the director of the prison of torturing el Tarky, under a lame pretext that it awaits orders from above before it handles this complaint.

It is noted that there were similar cases of MB detainees who died in prison due to torture or health neglection, most prominent of these cases was Eng.

Akram el Zuhairy who died in June 2004 due to being left in prison without any healthcare,  in spite of the appeals of his inmates to the officials and warnings that he suffered diabetes worsened by injuries while he was transferred to prison in a badly ventilated police vehicle, which speeded up his death.
