Freedom and Justice Leader Beltagy’s Wife Concerned for His Life after Surgery

Freedom and Justice Leader Beltagy’s Wife Concerned for His Life after Surgery

Sanaa Abdul-Gawwad, wife of Dr Mohamed Beltagy (member of the Freedom and Justice Party’s Executive Office), said she was prevented from visiting her husband following a hernia operation at Manyal University Hospital Tuesday (October 28).

"Heavy security all around the Surgery Department prevented me and a number of our close relatives from reaching my husband to see how he’s doing. Security forces then took him back to jail, without any consideration for his health condition or any complications that may result from transporting him too quickly.

"We hold the interior ministry fully responsible for his life and any worsening in his condition as a result of the vindictive harsh treatment they deal him for his political background without regard for his health."

A judicial source confirmed that Dr Beltagy had a hernia operation after midnight on Tuesday (October 28) in Manyal University Hospital, and that he was taken directly back to the high-security Scorpion Prison. He was not allowed to stay for any length of time at the hospital after the surgery. He was not transferred to the prison hospital, either.
