Freedom and Justice Party Condemns Erian Arrest in Coup Security Dawn Raid

As putschists in Egypt continue their relentless attacks on honorable politicians to quell all opponents of the military coup in the country, their security forces arrested today, Dr. Essam El-Erian, Vice-Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP).

Evidently, the arrest of Dr. El-Erian is a continuation of the same policy of exclusion by incarceration ferociously pursued by the generals since the early hours of the July 3 military coup, which has already so incarcerated Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, FJP Chairman, and a number of other members of the FJP’s Executive Bureau, nationwide secretaries and thousands of other FJP leaders, members and youths.

The FJP affirms that such repressive practices will not dissuade them from rejecting the brutal treasonous coup, and will not force them to cower or stop seeking the reinstatement of elected popular legitimacy, represented by the President of the Republic, the Shura Council (Upper House) and the 2012 Constitution.

The FJP further affirms that such arrests will not intimidate or discourage them from joining the Egyptian people in facing up to the coup, or endeavoring to defeat it by all nonviolent means available.

Your arbitrary arrests and detention will not scare us. For decades, you persecuted, executed and burnt us, and we are still as determined as ever to continue our peaceful struggle for our homeland and our people. We are advocates of truth, justice and peace. We will continue the march on the path of freedom and democratic transformation no matter the sacrifices we have to make.
