Muslim Brotherhood: Will Not Accept Political Role for Army Now, Nor in Future

Gehad Al-Haddad, Muslim Brotherhood media spokesman, said that Egyptians will not accept any political role for the army now or in the future, stressing that supporters of constitutional legitimacy are not afraid of death; and stand unarmed in liberty squares across Egypt.

This came in response to a message from the army delivered in printed flyers dropped by military helicopters on demonstrators in Nahda Square and Rabaa Al-Adaweya Square, in which coup commanders urged pro-Morsi sit-in protesters to return to their homes.

"We have no worries or fears about staying in or getting out of public squares", said Haddad, "directing military rifles to the chests of sons and daughters of this homeland, and not the enemies, alienated the military, and it has to make an effort to come back.

"We turned out to liberty squares in order to restore democratic legitimacy. We do not accept the military coup. The army has no right, now – nor in the future, to any political role."

Haddad further added, "We protect democratic legitimacy of the state, for Egyptian citizens. We call demonstrations on Monday in all Cairo squares and in all other governorates, in peaceful protest against the military coup. Tahrir Square is not part of our protest plan".
