FJP: Constitutional Court Rule Assures Full Legislative Powers for Shura Council

In a statement Sunday, Mohamed Tosson, Chairman of the Legislative and Constitutional Committee of Egypt’s Shura Council and a Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) leader, stressed that: "The Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC)’s ruling today is clear and unambiguous. It confirms that Shura Council remains in full charge of legislation, according to the text of Article 230 of the Constitution, where it states that the Shura Council must remain in power until the House of Representatives is elected.

"There is a relevant precedent that occurred in Germany, where an election law was ruled invalid, while dissolution of the Legislative Council was postponed. Then, the Council remained in power with its authorities unaffected."
