Essam El-Erian: Muslim-Christian Co-Existence Greatest Guarantee for Progress

In a post on his Facebook page, Essam El-Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice-Chairman, said: "Eastern Arabs, with their great diversity, were one of the reasons behind the great Islamic civilization, in which Muslims, Christians and Jews played major roles – as well as others who did not believe in God or His messengers.

"Arab Christians will remain an integral part of the Arab people. Co-existence based on compassion and fairness between Muslims and Christians, will remain the most significant guarantee for Arab community cohesion and ability to rise and progress."

Erian said, "We Muslims are committed to all that God commanded us to do in the Holy Quran. He said, ‘God does not forbid those who fight you not for religion nor drove you out of your homes, dealing kindly and justly to them. Allah loves those who act justly’ (Quran, 60:8). He also said, ‘You will find the nearest people in affection to the believers those who say, "We are Christians". That is because among them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant.’ (Quran, 5:82)."
