The PA chief, Mahmoud Abbas, phoned the Hamas supreme political leader, Khaled Mishaal, on Thursday in the presence of PA premier Ismail Haneyya on efforts to form the national unity government, Nabil Abu Rudaina, the PA presidential advisor, said.

He said that the phone conversation reflected the “positive spirit” that is prevailing in the national dialogue currently progressing in the Gaza Strip and in the talks between the PA presidency and premiership.

For his part, Dr. Ghazi Hamad, the PA government spokesman, told the PIC that the Abbas-Haneyya discussions over the past couple of days covered major strides in overcoming obstacles before formation of the unity government.

He noted that both men held three meetings on Wednesday and Thursday during which they bridged gaps, and described the discussions as “positive and constructive”.

In the same context, Fatah and Hamas officials in Nablus city signed a “document of honor” under the auspices of other factions. The document highlights importance of uniting Palestinian ranks and avoiding any “regretful” incidents in the Palestinian arena.
