President Morsi Abolishes Government Decision to Raise Taxes on Certain Goods and Services

A statement by the Egyptian Presidency said that President Morsi feels the pain of the Egyptian man in the street and realizes that the Egyptian citizen already struggles under heavy burdens in the current difficult economic circumstances. He took note of the reactions to government decisions to raise taxes on certain goods and services arising from fear that the application of these decisions will raise prices and increase the cost of living for citizens.

The statement added that the President does not accept that Egyptian citizens should bear additional burdens, so he decided to stop these decisions and order the government to conduct a public societal discussion, by expert specialists, to ease public opinion worries.
