Muslim Brotherhood and Freedom and Justice Party Delegation Congratulates Copts on Pope Election

A delegation from the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Thursday congratulated Pope Tawadros II, who was recently chosen as Pope of the Egyptian Church, in the monastery of Anba Bishoy in Wadi Natrun.


Mahmoud Abdel-Fattah, Brotherhood leader, said that the delegation included Mohamed Shatat, head of the MB administrative office in Wadi Natrun; his deputy Kamal Shibl; and Gamal Khidr, FJP Secretary in Wadi Natrun.

In a statement, prior to the visit, Mohamed Shatat said that the delegation would offer congratulations on behalf of both the MB and the FJP, which he stressed have enjoyed great relations with their Coptic brothers for so long. He explained that the visit is the first after Pope Tawadros II was chosen as head of the Egyptian Church.

Meanwhile, Gamal Khidr, FJP Secretary in Wadi Natrun, said that the FJP is a party for all Egyptians, that Copts are an essential part of the Egyptian people, and that they are partners in the homeland. He stressed that the visit and the greeting come at an important moment in the history of Coptic Christians.
