Ashri: Brotherhood is a Lawful Organization; Will Further Legalize Status When NGO Law is Enacted

Mukhtar Ashri, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Legal Committee, affirmed that the Brotherhood has carried this name since 1928 according to the law regulating civil associations in the Constitution of 1923, and has been operating under the umbrella of the law since its inception.

In a statement, Ashri pointed that the Brotherhood will submit formal registration papers as soon as a law is issued to regulate civil associations in Egypt, a move which had been banned for decades, and deliberately blocked by the former regime when the Brotherhood applied, ??in 2002, in order to operate more openly.

Ashri further said that individuals who applied to the Ministry of Social Affairs to establish and register associations with the same name as the Brotherhood, on the grounds that they want the Brotherhood to be a legal entity, are certainly not more keen on the legality of the organization than its own members, who are indeed law-abiding citizens.
