Morsi and Hu Jintao Underscore Need to End Syrian Crisis

Presidential spokesman Yasser Ali said that Egypt’s president Mohamed Morsi and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao agreed to work for an urgent end to the Syrian crisis, and to support the Palestinian cause.

The spokesman of the Egyptian head of state further said that President Morsi, during talks with Jintao, presented the Egyptian initiative to resolve the Syrian crisis, and invited his Chinese counterpart to participate in support of a peaceful solution and an integrated vision for Syria.

Meanwhile, Morsi stressed that Egypt is against foreign military intervention in Syria, because the results will not be positive.

Morsi’s spokesman pointed that Egypt called for dialogue between all parties involved in the crisis, in order to reach a solution without delay. He added that the Egyptian initiative will effectively move Iran out of the Syrian problem side over to the solution-making side.

Dr. Ali mentioned that President Morsi’s current visit to China has many goals, first and foremost of which is enlisting the help of the Chinese leaders to solve the Syrian crisis, and also seeking new horizons for joint cooperation between the two countries in various areas.

On the economic aspects of Morsi’s visit to China, the presidential spokesman said that the talks focused on deepening cooperation and implementation of joint projects between the two countries and increasing trade relations.

He pointed that President Morsi put forward a number of projects to the Chinese side for implementation in Egypt, including the ‘desert cities’ Silicon project, and also creating a joint fleet of fishing boats to operate in regional waters.

Dr. Ali affirmed that President Morsi called for increased investments in Egypt, and that China has promised to provide all possible support to boost the Egyptian economy, handing an immediate grant of 450 million Chinese Yuan (US$71 million) for the implementation of several joint projects.

Egypt and China have also agreed to form a joint committee to track the progress of approved projects.
