Mukhtar Ashri: Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party Reject Violence

Mukhtar Ashri, Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), expressed surprise at the move by the Egyptian Public Prosecutor Justice Abdel-Meguid to investigate a complaint accusing Dr. Mohamed Morsi, President of the Republic; Dr. Mohamed Badie, Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood; Al-Shater; Essam El-Erian; Mohamed Saad Katatni; and Mohamed Beltagy, Brotherhood leaders; as well as all members of the Muslim Brotherhood, of incitement to violence, assaulting protesters outside the Presidential Palace, circulating rumors and violating the sanctity of Egyptian blood. The State Security attorney general has been tasked with investigating the claims.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Ashri said: "Everyone has the right to file a formal complaint. This is guaranteed for all. But when the allegations are completely unfounded, when they are nothing but a pack of false claims, such action is totally unacceptable. These falsehoods will soon be proven for what they are".

Regarding claims – in the same complaint – of assaults against journalists outside Egypt’s Media City in Cairo, Ashri said: "The leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood have already stated that the group had absolutely nothing to do with these incidents.

"We are advocates of peace and piety, and we seek justice, freedom and dignity for all without distinction. There simply is no possibility at all of the Brotherhood resorting to any form of violence. We will not tolerate acts of violence; and we will not take part in any acts of violence; and we will certainly not support acts of violence in any way whatsoever.

"What’s happening on the scene now is that certain individuals are spreading rumors intended to distract Egyptians’ attention and focus away from the President’s concrete steps and bold action to establish a civil state and to protect democracy and its objectives."
