1000 Nominees for Egypt’s Constituent Assembly to Write New National Charter
Beltagy confirms that all sectors, classes and denominations of the Egyptian people will take part in the drafting of the new Constitution for modern, industrious, post-revolution Egypt.

 The number of candidates nominated for membership of the Constituent Assembly (CA) to draft Egypt’s new Constitution, according to the joint Technical Secretariat of the People's Assembly (PA) and Shura Council, has exceeded 1000, from both within or outside of parliament.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has nominated Major General Mamdouh Shahin, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legal Affairs and SCAF member, for membership of the CA.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Executive Bureau of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said that the list of names of candidates for the CA tasked with drafting the Constitution must reflect all hues of the Egyptian people.

Dr. Beltagy stressed that, "When widening circles of consensus, we will write a constitution for all Egyptians with all factions and sects, slides, professions and generations," hoping that efforts be crowned with success in writing the constitution for the construction of a free country dear to all its citizens.

Dr. Beltagy presented a vision for a number of names as potential candidates for the CA, some of them are Islamist thinkers such as Dr. Mohamed Emara and Dr. Nasr Farid Wassel, along with intellectual Copts such as Dr. Samir Morcos and Dr. Rafiq Habib, and liberal icons such as Dr. Mohamed Abul-Ghar and Dr. Hazem Beblawi, also left-wing figures like Abdel-Ghaffar Shukr and Ahmed Al-Najjar, along with youth such as Ahmed Harara, Moataz-Bellah Abdul Fattah, Nader Bakkar and Mohamed Abu Trika, along with MPs Dr. Saad Katatni, Essam El-Erian, Sayyed Mustafa, Ashraf Thabit, Dr. Amr Al-Shobki, Dr. Amr Hamzawy, Essam Sultan, Dr. Wahid Abdel Meguid, Dr. Ziad Bahaa El-Din and Ahmed Saeed, in addition to Margaret Azir and Dr. Mona Makram Ebeid, as well as Dr. Hoda Ghaneya and Dr. Nadia Mustafa, with no set quota for women.

Moreover, Dr. Beltagy suggested, from the list of elders of the judiciary, counselors Hossam Ghariani and Mahmoud Khudairi, as well as icons of creativity and art (Farouk Jweideh - Ashraf Abdul Ghafoor - Iman El Bahr Darwish) along with representatives of trade unions, civil society organizations, charities and human rights institutions, along with representatives of the Sinai and Nubia in particular, in addition to university professors, as well as representatives of workers and farmers.
