Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said that the Egyptian people continue – in the second phase of Shura Council elections – to show their resolve to move boldly towards free, modern Egypt, and the completion of the democratic transformation process.

After casting his vote, in his local Zagazig province (north-west of Cairo), Dr. Morsi said that the Egyptian people are now putting their political house in order – from within – conscientiously, determinedly, which will result in stability in all areas of economic, political and development concerns and endeavors.

The FJP Chairman reaffirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) is working to engage all the sons and daughters of this homeland in Great Egypt’s comprehensive renaissance project, to safeguard the freedoms they have gained – and continue to defend – and the democracy they are experiencing today.

Dr. Morsi pointed that the Brotherhood's call for ‘dialogue for Egypt’ started, long before the revolution, with all sectors of Egyptian society, political forces and stakeholders, opinion makers, thinkers and intellectuals.

The FJP Chairman added, "The (MB) Brothers are doing their best to assemble all parties in order for Egypt to look as it really is: united, seamlessly integrated and harmonious, with all the colors of its political spectrum, regardless of beliefs or political leanings. This is what the FJP is calling for as a conduit for the Brotherhood’s political program.

On the formation of the new government, Dr. Morsi underlined that the FJP regards Government as a truly heavy responsibility, not an honor, noting that the majority in Egyptian parliament now represented by the FJP believes “that national duty requires us to assume responsibility. A responsibility we pray God will help us bear and manage successfully, wisely”.

The FJP leader said, "As for the presidential election, registration of candidates has been rescheduled to begin on 10 March, and end in June with the election of the President, who begins to exercise his duties in July 2012. Thus, Egypt would have a President elected by the will of the Egyptian people, after they choose their representatives in parliament, in the People's Assembly and Shura Council. Prior to this, there is a government to form, expressing the will of the people, the parliamentary majority, as mandated by the people; a government that should shoulder its responsibility judiciously and do its duty diligently and with selfless devotion”.

Regarding U.S. aid, the FJP Chairman said, “This is primarily a military aid issue. Secondly, it is linked to the ‘Camp David Accord’. Now is not the time to discuss it. In fact, talk about doing without U.S. aid now could disrupt the march that we seek to keep on track. Otherwise, the whole path may be impacted, and the revolution may well lose its footing. But we certainly do want this march to fulfill the Egyptian people’s goals and dreams.
