FJP: We Won 46% of Seats, No Nominees For Head of Parliament

Dr. Mohamed Saad Eleewa, head of the Freedom and Justice Party’s (FJP) elections center, confirmed that the party and its  alliance succeeded in securing 222 of the available seats in parliament, adding up to 46% of the total number of seats in the Egyptian legislation.

Speaking to Ikhwanweb, he observed: "The FJP is still to compete for 18 more seats Saturday, January 14, in the third phase runoffs which were appealed in numerous districts".

Elewa denied circulating rumours in Egyptian papers that the party would nominate Dr. Saad Katatni or Dr. Essam El-Erian for parliament speaker. "Such speculations are premature and purely for press consumption.

Decisions in this regard will take place only when the elections are completed and after discussions are held", he stressed.

Once the elected 498 members of the 508-seat parliament are finally elected, it is expected that the remaining ten members will be appointed by the SCAF which is currently managing the state’s affairs.
