Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Morsi, received on Monday January 2, China's Ambassador to Cairo Mr. Song Aikowa, and discussed Egypt's current political state and the bilateral relations between China and Egypt. The party's Vice Chairman Dr. Essam el Erian also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Morsi welcomed the Chinese ambassador, and praised China's leading experience in economic development and balanced international relations

Domestically, Morsi stressed that the relationship between the new parliament and the transitional government in Egypt should be based on cooperation and coordination if projects are to be successfully established to relieve the burden carried by Egyptians for years.

Morsi expressed his hope that China plays a proactive rule in international affairs

"I call on China to support the Palestinians in their bid to form an independent state. The Syrians too need the world to speak out and support them against their corrupt ruler and his regime and the bloody crackdowns targeting Syria's civilians".

For his part, Aikowa congratulated the FJP on its impressive win thus far during the elections. He confirmed: "My country [China] advocates strengthening relations with Egypt, especially following the January 25 revolution as it will be beneficial to all involved".

He proposed means to expand economic relations between the two countries, pointing out that the Chinese companies are looking to increase their investments in Egypt

"China is hoping to increase its trades with Egypt, however, this of course depends on the nature of Egypt's economic and political stability following the completion of the parliamentary and presidential elections".
