FJP Press Statement No. 30, 2nd Phase, Last Run-Off Day

Elections continue for the second phase in the second and last day of the parliamentary individual seat run-offs. Turn-out ranges from low to moderate in some stations with higher attendance in others. Elections for the electoral list are also underway in the second district in Monofeya, Beheira and Sohag.

The Freedom and Justice Party’s, (FJP), legal committee has documented violations including the insistence by some heads of polling stations to ban candidate representatives from attending the poll count and recording results, alleging it is crowded enough. In reality, there is a shortage of representatives present during the re-run; furthermore, the ballot boxes are many reaching up to 700 boxes per district.

According to the committee some representatives from the Higher Electoral Commission (HEC) were also banned from participating in the process of vote counting, and documenting.

It is on this note that we call on the HEC to intervene and inform the heads of these stations to allow candidates representatives to partake in the counting process, to avoid any problems that might arise during the sorting process.
