The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns UNESCO's recent decision to introduce Occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on its website, in a grave violation of UN Security Council Resolutions which consider East Jerusalem Occupied.

The decision proves that the organization is biased to Israel and is tilting the scales ignoring the faith and heritage of over 1 billion Muslims worldwide. Accordingly it has chosen to ignore the oppression faced by the Palestinian residents of Occupied East Jerusalem who are being expelled and replaced by Jewish settlers.

It is on this note that the MB strongly rejects the decision describing UNESCO as losing its credibility as a neutral organization. Such decision is unjust, inappropriate, and illustrates complete disregard to the oppressed Palestinians who have an inherent right to the land.

This decision proves the complete disrespect for international covenants and agreements which will trigger an uprising by angry Palestinians who will defend what is rightfully theirs and has been for generations.

The MB highlights that UNESCO has failed its assigned role of preserving the sanctity of all religions revealing a double standard policy and calls on it to immediately revoke its decision.

The MB also urges UNESCO to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine in agreement with the UN resolutions which recognizes it as an occupied city since 1967.

Thank you Tarek
I thank you for this statement. This is a grave injustice to the Palestinian nation. It is crucial that the United Nations uphold its status as an independent organization and support and protect the occupied and oppressed indigenous people of Palestine. It is crystal clear according to international law that Jerusalem is not Israel's undivided capital, including United Nation's own resolutions.

Jerusalem Mojito
Jerusalem should, ultimately, belong to the people of the world and not just one entity. it is unfair and biased should it become the capital of palestine. remember, the shrines of the jewish and christian faith were erected way before any muslim structure.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Command the children of Israel, and say to them: `When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance -- the land of Canaan to its boundaries.' " Num 34.1-2 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.GEN 12:1-3

Jerusalen and the Quran Lee
I just got a copy of the Quran and cannot find Jerusalem mentioned therein. Am I missing something? Did Muhammed speak of Jerusalem but not include it in the Quran? If none of the above, how is it that Islam claims Jerusalem and in particular, the spot where Israel's temples were built?

Jerusalem....corpus separatum Robert Bruce
UN General Assembly resolution 303 reiterated the UN commitment to internationalization of Jerusalem, and designated it a "corpus separatum" - separate body. Under the original partition plan of 1947 (GA resolution 181), Jerusalem was to have been administered under UN sovereignty as an international city. The outbreak of hostilities immediately following the publication of the partition plan, led to division of Jerusalem into an eastern half controlled by Jordan and a western half under Israeli sovereignty. The Arabs initially rejected the internationalization of Jerusalem, and the Jewish side accepted it. By the end of the war of independence (1948 war) after the Jews had been expelled from the old city of Jerusalem, the Israeli government rejected internationalization. PS Jews are also indigenous to what the British first called Palestine under the League of Nations mandate after the imperial Turks were thrown out.

Long live MB. hamid from Iran
I am so happy to see that Muslim nations are getting out of oppression organized by west. I think that you should be very careful about America and it's allies. They are planning to separate Muslims from each other and perform their sinister divide and conquer tactics to vanish Islam from the region. Because Islam is the key to stand against West and Israel
