Muslim Brotherhood Deputy Chairman, Engineer Khairat el Shater, appeared on the Egyptian satellite channel al Tahrir, with host Mahmoud Saad to talk about the Egyptian revolution and the Muslim Brotherhood.

El Shater urged all political parties to bear Egypt's interests and development at the top of their priorities, and let aside infighting and political manipulations. El Shater reaffirmed the MB early decision, even before the ousting of Mubarak, not to compete for the presidential elections nor would it support any of its members who might choose to run as independents. He added seeking power as a goal is not on the MB’s agenda and never has been. He maintained even during the next parliamentary elections, the MB does not intend to secure the majority of the seats.

He reiterated that unity among Egypt's different political trends is imperative in order to rebuild Egypt future, calling on all to disregard differences and to dismiss the negative image of the MB portrayed by the former regimes media in an attempt to demonize the MB.

El Shater explained that the MB's priority now is to work with other patriotic Egyptians to protect the revolution against foreign attempts to cause rifts and sectarian sedition within Egyptian society, pointing that the MB cannot do this alone and it was significant there be coordinated efforts.

El Shater added that the MB plan for Egypt is to establishing a civil state based on Islamic moderate teachings while maintaining the spirit of the revolution by creating alliances and cooperating with other Egyptians to achieve the first two objectives. He ascertained that the MB has called for open dialogue with all political trends concentrating on Egypt’s advancement and prosperity, and effort that was led by chairman Dr. Mohamed Badie during his various meetings with head of political parties and activists.

El Shater described patience as the key to the revolution’s success, emphasizing that if any entity was harmed during Mubarak’s era it was the MB with the continued crackdowns and the unjust military tribunals the group’s members were continually and illegitimately subjected to.

He explained despite being described as outlawed and banned, the MB was always present and interacting with the public and enjoyed  popularity on the streets and has now succeeded in legalizing its status and establishing its new Freedom and Justice Party, advocating the much craved for freedom for all Egyptians.
