In a bid to stem protestors in Syria, authorities have used various methods of torture against them ranging from beatings, blindfolds, handcuffs and verbal abuse. As the days in detention increase after the initial arrests tortures vary to all who dare to protest against the 40 years of autocratic rule by the Assad family. Correspondents in Syria have been banned as the domino effect of the Arab revolutions reaches an all time high making accurate accounts difficult and those arrested were not spared the vicious punishments dished out by the regimes aide. An article titled “The high price of protesting in Syria” highlights the brutal treatment by security forces given the green light to implement whatever forces necessary to end protestors from daring to voice their opinion and practice their most basic rights of freedom of speech. Despite the inhumane methods which are condemned by human rights and NGO’s worldwide it appears that once a cause has been adopted and fear knows no place in these protestors hearts try as they might, torture as they wish there will be an end to the corrupt regime’s tortures whether or not they like it; after all history has a habit of repeating itself and the Syrians need only recall their Egyptian and Tunisian neighbours to know that whatever there’s a will there’s a way. |
