MB and Socialists Together in the Students’ Elections for the First Time in 16 Years

The “Free Ones in Cairo University” gained a large proportion of the votes in the run-off in the Student Union’s elections.

The list includes a coalition from students of “the Muslim Brotherhood, socialists, students from My Right Movement and independent students”.

They amount to above 120 candidates from the different faculties, while the results of the rest will be announced.

In the Faculty of Science, the ‘Free in Cairo University’ won the majority, the two divisions in the Faculty of Engineering, and the first division in the Faculty of Law.

In the Faculty of Agriculture there was a sharp decline in the votes for the list as members of the old students union and some independents won.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Mahmoud Kabeesh decided to include the votes of last Thursday to those of Monday this week. This decision was rejected by all candidate students.

Dr Kabeesh stated that this decision was made to guarantee the highest level of democracy in the elections.

He rejected what some students said that some students would vote twice, because others would also object that they voted on Thursday only and vice-versa.
