MB Statement on Atrocities Committed by Libya’s Gaddafi, Yemen’s Saleh against their People

The Muslim Brotherhood’s hearts are heavy because of the insane war waged by the Libyan regime in which he uses heavy weapons including tanks and artillery against his people who are defending their cities, demanding their right to live in freedom, dignity and justice, and getting rid of their tyrant ruler who has ruled Libya for over 41 years as he has spread terror, killed his opponents.

His family possesses enormous wealth, and has bestowed upon himself hollow titles like “King of Kings of Africa” and buried the vast wealth has been acquired in almost 40 countries.

Muammar Gaddafi is apparently willing to adopt a scorched earth policy that is designed to bring pain to all who oppose him. The destruction of Libya’s oil facilities would forever label Gaddafi as a mad dog dictator who is willing to destroy his own country rather than relinquish power.

He threatens to bring even more chaos to Libya by sabotaging oil facilities, in a scene that repeats Iraq’s tragedy with Saddam Hussein. How far will the mad dog dictator go to remain in power? Does Gaddafi’s claim that he is keen on the country’s supreme interest allow him to destroy cities, kills people and then give the West a pretext to destroy the army, for maintaining his hold on power?

The Muslim Brotherhood are deeply grieved by the brutal assault that was launched by Yemeni regime snipers against peaceful protestors in Sanaa’s Square, which resulted in the deaths of more than 50 people and 200 wounded.

Is it patriotism that President Ali Abdullah Saleh clings to power for 30 years by grossly and systematically violating his own people’s human rights and increasing poverty, hunger, unemployment, ignorance and disease? The Yemeni president is endangering the country’s unity, where discontent has reached boiling point when southerners are demanding secession from the north. The MB asserts that the country’s supreme interest necessitates that Ali Abdullah Saleh step down. Yemenis need to breathe freedom, and freely choose their own representatives.

The MB affirms that tyranny, oppression, violence and terror is fueling revolutions and prompts silent segments to support protests and share in their insistence on sticking to their demands. Therefore, the tyrants must learn lessons from their predecessors in Tunisia, Egypt and authoritarian rulers in Eastern Europe like Ceausescu.

In conclusion, we would like to draw the attention of other rulers who began their first steps in the same way, that the West is lying in wait, for as soon as they fight their people, decisions are issued from the UN Security Council to destroy their armies for the benefit of Zionists. It is better for them to wake up before they fall into disaster, and restore the people’s usurped rights.

The MB assures the hostile forces that support Arab authoritarian regimes to loosen-up as these rulers are to pass away, and that the people will remain as they have the right on their wealth, contracts, treaties and conventions. If they are keen on their interests, they must respect the peoples’ right to live in dignity and make their choices, not the tyrants.

What is happening in Libya may be a lesson for the remaining Arab rulers: Try to save your heads and your people before the time comes, and it is obviously coming.
