Ban Ki-Moon meets with Egypt officials and MB spokesman

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Egypt, following Egypt’s historical referendum and met with the country’s Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, deputy minister Yehia El-Gamal, foreign minister, Nabil Al-Araby, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi , and other influential leaders including Muslim Brotherhood media spokesman Dr. Essam El-Erian.

 

In a statement he stressed that Egypt’s success will be first and foremost for Egyptians to decide and share, but, given the country’s standing in the world, adding a successful transition can inspire the rest of the Arab world.

 

Dr. Essam welcomed Ki-Moon to Egypt and addressed the significance of the UN’s support of Egypt during this critical transitional period and how to raise awareness of human rights in the country’s security apparatus.

 

Other issues discussed included the UN’s assistance in fighting corruption and legislative issues and social security.
