Shura Council: The Unified Law on Places of Worship Will not Be Applied for Procedural Measures

Dr. Mostafa Al-Feqi, Head of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Shura Council and member of the NDP stated that the unified law on places of worship will not be applied for procedural measures, pointing out that this law could lead to affliction in the community as some Muslims might call for the building of a mosque on 100 acres like some Christian monasteries.

Al-Feqi sees that this issue will not be solved except with a presidential decree or new legislation to abolish the above.

During the conference of the European Business Council, Al-Feqi stressed that the problems regarding the remarks of Pope Benedict XVI is related to his remarks since taking office. He added that the pope thanked all categories of religious followers except Muslims during his inauguration ceremony.

Al-Feqi stressed that the pope seems academic; however, he does not understand the mentalities of the people in other countries, with all due respect, unlike the former pope John Paul II.

Al-Feqi demanded Pope Benedict to make the difference clear between his remarks and criticisms which imposes guardianship over other countries.

Al-Feqi noted that he believes Egyptians were involved in the bombing of the Saints Church in Alexandria because it is very difficult for anyone to be able to do this without internal assistance.
