Family of a New Torture Victim in Alexandria Complains to Attorney General

The family of 19-year-old Ahmed Shaaban el-Kota submitted a complaint to the General Prosecution accusing police officers in Sidi Gaber police station of arresting and detaining their son for six days and dumping his corpse at al-Mahmoudeya bank. His corpse showed signs of torture and severe injuries.

It was reported that the victim’s friend is the only witness to the abduction and he is currently being detained at Sidi Gaber police station to stop him from speaking and exposing the murder of el-Kota.

A close source to the family stressed that the deceased is 19-year-old Ahmed el-Kota, who obtained a higher education. The source also accused police officers and informants of “torturing al-Kota to death at the police station”.  The funeral of al-Kota was surrounded by a large number of security forces, as news of his torture spread, with people fearing that the same actions which accompanied the announcement of the death of Khaled Saeed will be repeated.

“During al-Kota’s detention period, his family received news that he was being tortured and detained at Sidi Gaber police station; however, police officers denied he was there. Two days after finding his body next to a local bank, his family was shocked to hear the news and when they went to see him they found traces of torture on his body,” the source added.
