The ruling National Democratic Party submitted its candidates' list for November's parliamentary elections just before the expiry of the application deadline in an effort to conceal its contents until the last possible moment.

NDP officials have indicated that the party plans to field numerous candidates in the districts expected to witness intense competition.

Ex-wife of the Ghad party leader, Gamila Ismail, has maintained that she is running as an independent. She slammed the current measures but stressed that setting aside a limited number of seats in parliament for women contravenes the constitution adding that women should have the right to compete for all seats in the assembly.
