The Interior Ministry began using restrictive and arbitrary measures against the Muslim Brotherhood members in most of Egypt’s governorates following the announcement of their participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Security forces raided offices, bookstores and computer companies belonging to MB members in different governorates and confiscated documents.

Eleven MB members were arrested in Alexandria and computers and printers from their companies and Islamic bookstores were seized.

In the Damietta governorate, security forces arrested the owners and managers of three Islamic bookstores, also belonging to MB members, after searching their premises for CDs concerning information about parliamentary elections. Similar measures also took place in the Monofeya governorate, where 5 MB managers and several employees were arrested and their computers, books and printers confiscated from their bookstores.

Five MB members from the Assiut governorate, five from the Sharqeya governorate, and four from the Daqahleya governorate were also arrested by Security forces  from their bookstores.

Meanwhile, Mansoura’s Prosecution has decided to detain 10 MB members for 15 days, pending investigations, after they were arrested on Sunday from their homes following the MB chairman’s confirmation that the group would participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
