Various political opposition parties and human rights organizations agreed on the signing of a petition sent to President Hosni Mubarak calling for integrity in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

The petition outlined requests to the president urging him to order the elections be based on an unconditionally proportional list system, and supervision and monitoring by the Supreme Election Committee calling for a term of six years as opposed to three.

They appealed to the president to temporarily suspend the 29-year-old Emergency Law during the elections, in preparation for abolishing it entirely at a later stage. The law has been imposed since his coming into power.

Head of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, Hafez Abu Saeda maintained that over 120 human rights organizations are scheduled to meet this month to discuss its future agenda.

Opposition underscored the necessity of supervision stressing that time has come that political forces unite and press the regime into meeting the people's demands.

Yousri Bayoumi from the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc added that impartiality would only be guaranteed if there was judicial supervision.
