Power failures will worsen health crisis in Gaza

The military medical services unit in the Gaza Strip warned that constant power outages will cause the Strip’s humanitarian and medical condition to deteriorate.

The unit’s spokesman, Adham Abu Salmiya, said in a news briefing that 15-hour-long power outages have led to a sharp health crisis in the Strip, highlighting that some patients, such as kidney and lung patients, cannot go without electrical medical appliances “for one moment.”

Health organizations, specifically Gaza’s larger hospitals will suffer a humanitarian disaster in the next few days, Abu Salmya added, because of the non-availability of spare parts needed to run the generators during the long power breaks.

The health official called for immediate intervention into the crisis, noting that international neglect in the situation is a humanitarian crime.
