Rallies condemning torture of Khaled Saeed in Egypt continue

Events condemning torture in Egypt continue as the Egyptian Movement for Change “Kefaya” announced the organization of a mass protest on the 40 day commemoration of the killing of Khaled Saeed who has come to be known as the “emergency-law martyr”. The protest is scheduled to take place in front of the Supreme Judiciary building.

A statement by Kefaya stressed that Saeed’s tragic killing was not the first and will not be the last; adding it was significant that justice be bought and the killers of Saeed be punished accordingly. The statement called for the elimination of the Emergency Law which has been in force for over 30 years and has continued to target political opposition members from the Muslim Brotherhood, April 6 Movement and Kefaya.

Bloggers and Facebook activists announced their intention to participate in the protest against human rights violations, as they slammed the torture of citizens in police stations and detention centre urging that all responsible be held liable

The activists also called for the release of all honorable and political detainees and an immediate end to the state of emergency in  Egypt .
