Ireland expels Israeli diplomat

DUBLIN, — The Irish government on Tuesday announced that it asked Israel to recall one of its diplomats in Dublin over the usage of Irish passports in the assassination of Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in Dubai last January.

Irish foreign minister Michael Martin said in a statement that the investigation conducted by the passports department in his country had affirmed that the eight Irish passports used by people suspected of involvement in murdering Mabhouh were forged.

He said that the misuse of Irish passports on the part of a country with which Ireland maintains amicable relations was totally unacceptable.
