It appears the scales are tilted regarding candidates in the upcoming Shura elections Supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood movement have faced numerous assaults from the NDP as banners and posters in favour of the MB are either ripped or confiscated. Activists uniting with the MB are also detained during electoral rounds and publicity campaigns Tensions escalate as candidates belonging to the NDP, MB and independents file police reports and complaints to the Electoral commission with various accusations Media spokesman Dr. Essam el-Erian, also from the Executive Bureau, stated that security has been trying to eliminate Brotherhood candidates from all constituencies stressing that "There is so much evidence, including daily arrests of our candidates' supporters, and pressure on the owners of shops selling cloth and calligraphists not to deal with Brotherhood candidates". There has also been much controversy to the bloc's motto "Islam is the solution" despite court rulings in the group's favour Reports of NDP banners and posters hung on government buildings are wide spread and microphones supporting them are allowed to make their rounds whilst MB members are attempting to protect their banners and posters which continue to be seized or ripped by security agents. |
