The European campaign to end the siege on Gaza has announced that a European parliamentary delegation is expected to visit the Gaza Strip by mid May to get acquainted with its tragic conditions and to discuss the exacerbating power crisis.

Member of the campaign Rami Abdo told Safa news agency in a statement on Sunday that 25 European lawmakers would visit the Strip and the West Bank after they received the detailed report prepared by the biggest ever European parliamentary delegation to Gaza earlier this year.

He quoted the head of the budget committee in the European parliament, Alain Lamassoure, as saying during a meeting with the campaign's delegation last Wednesday that the parliamentary team would focus on ending the Gaza electricity problem especially when the EU financing to the Palestinians to cover that aspect was never reduced.

Lamassoure, who was a former French culture minister, said that the issue would top the delegation's priorities, refusing the idea that a Palestinian party was exploiting an essential life necessity such as electricity in political wrangling.

The European campaign held a series of meetings lately with MPs in various European countries to brief them on the difficult living conditions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli blockade that entered its fourth successive year.
