ElBaradei addressed the audience asserting that the call for constitutional amendments was a priority. The recipient however, did not rule out the presidential bid in 2011. ElBaradei's active emergence early this year has caused a somewhat uncomfortable feeling by authorities. The 'could be candidate' has met with opposition groups in Egypt, including the Muslim Brotherhood, where they have all agreed to call for political change. The collaborated efforts of numerous opposition groups have resulted in escalating tension between opposition and authorities as they urged the regime to hold free and fair elections, with judicial supervision. The group also demanded  the elimination of  the emergency law.

ElBaradei, appealed to the authorities, to heed their requests, maintaining that by moving beyond an authoritarian system to a democracy, empowering people and restoring basic right all will benefit positively.

Speculations have fuelled as the public anticipate whether the 67 year old, Nobel Peace prize winner will in fact challenge the 81 year old Egyptian President Mubarak or not. Mubarak, who has been in power since 1981 has not as yet disclosed his intentions regarding the upcoming elections; however it is believed that he is grooming his son Gamal for Presidency
