Students of the Telecommunications Department at Cairo university’s Faculty of Engineering continued their four day vigil, protesting at arresting the department deputy chairman, Dr. Essam Hashish, who is arrested on charge of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood group and who was accordingly transferred to a military court.

The students start their protesting vigil everyday at 9.00 AM till 12.00 AM and they refused to attend their lectures and declared their continuing the protest vigil and not attending classes till this weekend and till their demand of releasing Dr. Hashish is met.

The students denounced not addressing their demand until now, threatening that the telecommunications department in the faculty will stage an open strike against attending classes unless Dr. Hashish is released.

Faculty of Engineering’s guard administration denied some journalists and media men access to the faculty to cover the vigil. Also, all attempts exerted by the teaching staff members to make the security give access to journalists and some satellite channels cameramen failed.

A number of teaching staff members in the faculty of engineering participated in the vigil in which the students raised placards condemning the detention and the emergency law, demanding releasing Dr. Hashish and drawing a comparison between arresting university professors and leaving criminals in cases of sexual harassment, street children and ferry sinking on the loose.
