18 Palestinian prisoners held in solitary confinement

The prisoners’ center for studies has said that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) was holding 18 Palestinian prisoners in isolation cells including a woman.

The center in a statement on Thursday quoted prisoners Tawfik Abu Naim in Hadarim jail as saying that most of those prisoners were senior leaders of various Palestinian factions.

He said that the detained woman is Wafa’a Al-Bis from Gaza Strip and the 18 others included Ahmed Saadat, the secretary general of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine, along with Hamas senior leaders Abdullah Al-Barghouthi, Ibrahim Hamed, Yehya Al-Sinwar, Hasan Salame, Jamal Abul Haija and others.

The director of the center, Ra’fat Hamdona, said that solitary confinement was one of cruelest form of punishment, describing it as “slow death”.

He asked human rights groups to intervene and save the lives of the Palestinian prisoners held in solitary confinement at trivial pretexts.
