In a press statement, Falk asserted that the PA's demand followed criticism on his side of the way the PA was dealing with his report on the Israeli violations of human rights.

He added that the PA claimed that he was no longer capable of assuming his duties.

The UN official expressed concern at the PA practices, adding that he did not intend to resign.

The joint PA-PLO mission at the UN in Geneva had tabled a request to adjourn a report tabled by Falk on the Israeli violations of Palestinian rights.
