Renewal of detention for Dr. Abul Fotouh and four others

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided today to renew the of detention of Dr. Abel Moneim Abul Fotouh, member of the Guidance Bureau and Secretary-General of Arab Doctors Federation, along with Dr. Gamal Abdel Salam (Director of Relief and Emergency Committee in the Arab Doctors Federation), Reda Fahmy (North Cairo), Abdel Rahman El-Gamal (Gharbeya- from the Ministry of Education) and Ali El-Hadidi for a further fifteen days pending investigations.
 
The Prosecution charged the detainees with the same previous charges. These allegations were denounced by intellectuals and politicians in Egypt and the Arab world.  Charges included were money laundering collected from a terrorism network designed to conceal and disguise its source and nature.
 
The State Security Forces had launched a fierce raids campaign on 28th June 2009 which resulted in the arrest of the previous group, however the State Security Prosecution including Khaled El-Sayed El-Beltagi (Cairo), Adel Abdel Rahim Afifi (Giza) and Mohamed Taha Wahdan (Ismailia) in the same case as they were among the nineteen detainees’ houses were raided last March. They were granted a release decision by the, nonetheless, this was not implemented because the Ministry of Interior decided to re-arrest them.
 
 Dr. Osama Soliman and Dr. Ashraf Abdel Ghaffar vice Secretary-General of the Medical Association and member of the Human Relief Agency were among those detained.
