Kafr El-Zayyat court witnessed a sit-in comprising of more than 300 lawyers Sunday, April 19, who were protesting against the transgressions of a Koum Hamada police secretary against their colleague.

The story began last Wednesday, April 15, when lawyer Ahmed El-Gizawy headed to Koum Hamada police center to look for the records of one of his clients via the police secretary’s computer who, in turn, ordered him out of his office.  When El-Gizawy identified himself as a lawyer, the police became furious and started insulting, beating, and assaulting El-Gizawy with the assistance of investigation agents causing him severe injuries.

Protestors accused investigation authorities of conniving with the police secretary who was summoned at night, interrogated, and released all in the absence of the victim or a representative, according to Ahmed Sobhy Hegazy, one of the participants in the sit-in.  Hegazy further pointed out that lawyers had decided to hold the sit-in after the failure of the meeting between Galal Shalabi, Gharbiyya Lawyers Head, and First Attorney General of Damanhour prosecution.

Protestors further called for the trying of the police secretary and imposition of legal measures against Koum Hamada investigations officers and the prosecution deputy who released the police secretary.
